TIMBAVATI & KRUGER TOUR

5 days / 5 nights

Itinerary:

Day 1:
After breakfast we drive through the Blyde River Canyon. We see 10 major viewpoints: Pinnacle Rock, God’s Window & the rain forest, Wonder View, London Falls, Bourke’s Luck potholes, Lowveld Viewpoint where you may also hear the story of Maholoholo, (The war of wars), The very famous Three Rondavels, Berlin & Lisbon waterfalls. We go to our secret kloofing spot where you “kloof 12 meters through the air” before smashing into the pool. For lunch we cook hamburger or hotdogs at the potholes where you can buy something at the kiosk. If the weather is nice we spend another hour at the diving hole. We return to Koka Moya where we relax till supper of Chicken curry & Kaboemielies is served.

Day 2:
After breakfast we drive down the mountain and descend 1.2 Km to the lowveld. We visit the Maholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Center where we learn about the devastating effect man have upon the animals and their ecosystems. We see all the major partors, vultures, lions, leopards, cheetah, cervel cats, caracal, wild dogs and hyena. After Moholoholo we book into a luxury lodge where we sleep in riverside tented chalets. We go on a Big 5 game drive / night-drive combination in one of the top reserves in South Africa after lunch. Then we do a night march on the 140 ha fenced of part. We often find the Neighbour’s Rhino bull at the fence. Do not expect much sleep! The roaring of nearby lions, the laughing Hyenas or other animals moving in the river or around your chalet may keep you awake.

Day 3:
Optional: A 4 km game walk early the next morning on your own. Tea is served in bed. We depart after breakfast to our second luxury lodge. On our way to the guesthouse we do a short game drive. Our chalets is situated around a dam with Hippos. We relax at the swimming pool and after a short siesta we take another game drive. Chicken potjie and pasta is our main dish for dinner tonight over the fire.

Day 4:
Shortly before daybreak we depart for Kruger. Today we drive around the park for about 10 hours. Need to say more? The famous Kruger! One day you see 3000 animals, including 11 leopards, 24 lions, 9 rhinos ( actual sightings on some of my tours), and the next day only 200. In the 6 years that I have done these tours, only three of them I did not see the Lions. We overnight in Pretoriuskop or the Lower Sabie camps.

Day 5:
After breakfast we drive past the main camp Skukuza, where you can see the evidence of Harrie’s story! On the way to Malelane gate we hope to see the animals that eluded us so far. We exit Kruger around 13h30 where you can get bus connections form Nelspruit to Johannesburg, or you can carry on in Kruger and return to Graskop.
