Mozambique
Mozambique stretches along the south-eastern coastline of
Africa and boasts 2500 kilometers of pristine coastline.
Formerly a Portuguese colony, it has, over the last few years,
become the playground of tourists who visit the turquoise waters
of the Archipelago.
Bazaruto Archipelago
Once part of the mainland, the Archipelago broke away 25 000
years ago to form a chain of five islands. These islands are
made up of Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Banque and Sant
Carolina. They lie opposite the coastal town of Vilanculos,
which is the staging point for visitors departing to the islands
for their vacations.
Benguerra is the second largest island in the chain and is approximately 55 square kilometers in extent. This ensures that guests enjoy ample privacy within an idyllic island paradise surrounded by magnificent beaches and, further out, pristine coral reefs. The unique freshwater lakes on the island are indeed a reminder of ancient times when the island was part of the mainland and still hosts a population to freshwater crocodiles. On the island you will find a diversity of birdlife of more than 140 species.
Accommodation
The lodge is small, intimate and has a rich East African /
Arabic feel – evinced in both the décor, the unique and
delectable food, comprised largely of freshly caught seafood.
The 2 new Suites (each with its own private deck and dip pool /
jacuzzi), and the 11 private en-suite chalets merge naturally
into the surrounding indigenous forest. It is only moment’s walk
from the gorgeous white half-moon beach.
For those wanting luxury and privacy – we have an exclusive Villa, set apart from the rest of the lodge. It has 2 double bedrooms and its own private dinner area / lounge with personal chef, as well as its own private swimming pool.
ACTIVITIES
The Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
There are numerous reefs to explore with a stunning diversity of
coral, whale shark, fish, turtles, manta rays and small sharks.
Dolphins are often seen in the bay. Scuba divers need their
C-Cards of Log books to dive. All the equipment is provided.
The Whales
Humpbacks migrate down the coast every year, making July –
September spectacular months for whale watching.
The Fishing
World class saltwater fly fishing and deep-sea fishing.
